About Our School

History of Morningside Middle School:

  • Morningside Middle School, located in Fort Worth, Texas, was originally constructed as Morningside Junior High School during the 1955-56 academic year. The school officially opened its doors in September 1956, with Herbert A. Wilson serving as its first principal (1956-1961).
  • Over the years, the school underwent several structural and academic transformations. In 1970, Robert McDaniel took over as principal, and during the 1970-71 school year, an east annex was added to the main building to accommodate the growing student population.
  • In 1973, Morningside transitioned to serving only sixth-grade students. This arrangement lasted until 1983, when the school was reorganized to include sixth through eighth graders, officially becoming Morningside Middle School.
  • In 1985, Odessa Ravin became the first female principal of the school, serving until 1997. Under her leadership, the school continued to expand both academically and structurally.
  • In 2005, Morningside Middle School underwent further renovations, including the addition of a new wing of classrooms and improved accessibility features for individuals with disabilities.
  • In 2021, Fort Worth ISD voters approved a $1.2 billion bond program, allocating $55,321,979 to Morningside Middle School for major renovations. These upgrades include new secured front-entry vestibules, improved corridors and common areas, enhanced media centers, modernized cafeteria spaces, upgraded science labs, and classroom modifications to align with updated educational standards. Additionally, the removal of portable classrooms and building expansions were planned to accommodate student needs.
  • In 2024, Morningside Middle School introduced the Viking Market, a campus-based resource designed to support students and their families by providing essential supplies and assistance.
  • Dr. Rhonda McGuire currently serves as the principal, leading initiatives that focus on student success, community engagement, and academic excellence.
  • The school has remained an integral part of the Fort Worth community, continually evolving to meet the educational needs of its students while upholding a strong tradition of academic excellence and leadership development.
